AT&T Inc. on Thursday said its fourth-quarter earnings rose 62 percent as it gained an industry record 2.7 million new wireless customers and experienced a revenue jump from recent acquisitions. The nation's largest phone company also reaffirmed earlier projections for strong 2008 growth despite concerns about the slowing U.S. economy.
For the final quarter of 2007, AT&T's earnings were $3.14 billion, or 51 cents a share, on revenues of $30.35 billion. That compared with earnings of $1.94 billion, or 50 cents a share, on revenues of $15.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2006.
Excluding one-time costs such as merger expenses, AT&T would have earned $4.3 billion, or 71 cents a share, compared with income of $2.4 billion, or 61 cents a share, a year ago.The 71 cents per share met the average earnings estimate of analysts, according to Thomson Financial. More>>
